What sources show that Mary is attached to the correct WIlliam as her father? Sources on William Bateman show her as his daughter. That WIlliam's will was written in 1656 and proved in 1658, and named Joseph MIddlebrook citing the same source shown as in this profile (Jacobus). It looks as if there may be some conflation in the father shown for her on this page, William Bateman.

Conflicting information:

From “The Middlebrook Register: Joseph Middlebrook, b. in England circa 1610, arrived at Concord, Massachusetts Bay Colony, New England, in October, 1635. Removed to Fairfield, Colony of Connecticut, in 1644. m. (1) Mary (dau. of William Bateman of Fairfield), who d. young. m. (2) Mary Turney (widow of Benjamin Turney) in 1648-9. Joseph d. at Fairfield in 1686.

From “Colonial Families of the USA, 1607-1775”: Benjamin Turney, of Fairfield, CT; d. 1648 . . . came from . . . England to Concord MA abt 1636 m. in England, Mary Bateman, dau of William Bateman; she survived him & m. (2nd) Joseph Middlebrook.

I think Joseph only married one "Mary"

Benj Turney is not likely Mary Bateman's 2nd? husband. See Joseph Middlebrook's 2nd wife Mary Odell whose husband was a Benj Tunrey...

Mary Bateman must be deceased in order for Joseph to re-marry.

IF she was born in 1616 it was DEFINITELY NOT in Massachussets. The Mayflower didn't bring the first settlers to Mass until 1620.
