David was born in Hingham, second precinct, 19 Nov 1719.[1][2]
He married Hannah daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Buck) Whitcomb Lincoln 4 Mar 1736.[3][1]
David's will proved the 7th of August 1773 mentions sons David, Abner, James and "to son Noah if he ever comes home again". Also, granddaugher Susa.[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with David by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with David:
The marriage record for the David Bates son of John Bates and Remember Ward [both of Weymouth] took place in Weymouth, not in Barnstable as posted. The David Bates who m. Patience Farrow who had a son David b. 1719 was only 17 years old in 1736 and would not have been in his majority in 1736, hence not allowed to marry Hannah Lincoln by 1736. That latter one did not have Noah and the other older children, because he married Patience Farrow in 1745, and children Noah to Susanna were born 1736 to 1745, before the other David married in 1745. The extensively detailed history of Weymouth families by George Walter Chamberlain with Howard H. Joy as compiler has the Bates lengthy records compiled by Walter L. Bates of South Weymouth. On p. 27 of the Weymouth work above is my Abner Bates b. 1740 who is listed as son of David and HANNAH. Hence everything after Hosea Bates above needs to be removed from the profile of David Bates b. 1719, Son of David Bates and Patience (Farrow) Bates, and transferred to David Bates son of John. Also my David did not die May 5, 1772 in Hingham; rather, that was the date he wrote of will stating he was "of Hingham." The will was proved Aug. 7, 1772 so he died sometime between those dates. There was no date of death in the vital records of Hingham that I could find in 1772.

David was instead more likely a son of John Bates by his wife Remember (Ward). The History of the Town of Hingham, published in 1893 is likely incorrect as to his parentage (David Bates and Patience Farrow), as that applies to a different David Bates. A genealogy of the family by a member of his great grandson Abner Curtis Bates b. 1809 has John as f/o David. Two ties ins on the Ward side link this David to having a mother of Remember Ward. David was originally from Weymouth but was living in Hingham because his wife, Hannah Lincoln, was from there. I also updated Hannah's mother as Elizabeth Buck, who was a sister of Mehitable Buck. Both were ancestors of Abner C. Bates, whose parents were third cousins by the Buck connection. Should we remove David Bates and Patience Farrow as parents?
I have made David the son of David and Patience. I have also created a profile for David son of John and Remember (Ward) Bates of Weymouth. I find lots of "family-trees" created using both David's as the spouse of Hannah Lincoln. I think the profiles should stay as they are until there is vetted source information that supports a change.
