Mary Martha was born 30 Sep 1851 and baptized 29 Apr 1857 at Port Richmond Methodist Episcopal Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. She was the daughter of Charles and Margaret Bates, an Irish immigrant couple. [1]
The family still lived in Philadelphia in 1860. [2]
The family arrived at Lyttelton, New Zealand on 24 Mar 1864 aboard the Indian Empire. [3]In 1869 in New Zealand she married William Wright. [4]
She passed away 7 Jun 1886 age 36 at French Farm, near Akaroa. [5] She is buried at Akaroa Anglican Cemetery. [6]
It seems her father also had a sister Mary Martha Bates (who married and died at home in County Donegal).
