Biography
De Whit Clinton Bates was born in Cohasset 28 Oct 1827, He was the son of Lot and Winifred (Ellms) Bates.[1]
He married in Hingham, May 8, 1853, Sarah A. Burbank, daughter of Abraham and Mary (Barrell) Burbank.[1]
Selectman, assessor, and overseer of the poor for the town of Hingham from 1871 to -.[1]
Surveyor of highways.[1]
He was educated in the public schools of Cohasset. He subsequently studied with Rev. Joseph Osgood, and at the Merrimack Normal Institute in N. H.[1]
He taught in the public schools of Cohasset, Braintree, and Hingham for about twenty years.[1]
In 1866 and 1867, De Whit represented the town of Hingham at the General Court.[1]
He lived on East Street in Hingham.[1]
