Rebecca was born in 1881 at St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of William B. Battelle and Jane Atwood. [1] She married in 1901 to Edmund Blanton Taylor, [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] was widowed in 1946, [7] and passed away in 1968. [8] [9] [10]

"Services for Mrs. Rebecca Battelle Taylor, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Christ Episcopal Church, Rev. P. Scott Frantz officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
"Mrs. Taylor, formerly of 1141 Rice, died at 9:50 a.m. Monday in Lima Convalescent Home, where she had been a resident 22 months.
"Born in St. Louis, Mo., June 28, 1881, she was the daughter of W. P. and Jennie Attwood Battelle. She was married to Edmund B. Taylor, who died in 1946.
"A member of Christ Episcopal Church, Mrs. Taylor was named "Ohio Mother of the Year" in 1963 and was active in civic, welfare and political organizations.
"A member of the Ohio Federation of Womens' Clubs for 40 years, she was past president of the Lima chapter; past regent of the Daughters of the Revolution, Lima chapter; and past president of the Lima Women's Club.
"She was also first chairman of the Ohio Federation's writers' committee, which paved the way for the Ohioana Library; past chairman of its division of literature, and assistant editor of the Federation's publication, "Buckeye."
"Locally, Mrs. Taylor was a member of the YWCA board of directors; and secretary of the board for the Council of Social Agencies and Community Fund for eight years.
"She also served as a board member of the American Red Cross, Allen County chapter, the past 15 years and was chairman of its volunteer services unit from 1939-1949. She was a member of the Allen County Civil Defense unit and served as a chairman of a CD committee.
"Mrs. Taylor at one time engaged in the promotion of safety education in the schools as a member of the Governor's Safety Commission, ans was personnel director of a local manufacturing firm during World War II.
"Surviving are four sons, Richard B. of 1602 Shawnee Rd., retired U.S. Air Force major and owner of Taylor Glass Co., Edmund B., retired U.S. Navy vice admiral of Virginia Beach, Va., Crittenden B., retired Navy commander of Columbus, and Thomas H., retired Navy captain of Lovettsville, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Jane Taylor Klein of Newport Beach, Calif.; a sister, Miss Jane M. Battelle of 124 N. Jameson; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
