Biography

Tom has been described as the "Typical Iconic Kiwi Bloke" stereotype.

"A modern day pioneer in appearance and nature who would have been at home in the pioneering ages"

"MacGyver, he could make anything out of anything"

Tom was at home in the countryside. He grew up on his parents farm in Pukemaori, Southland, New Zealand. Tom left Southland in search of a new place to settle and have a family as he felt the weather conditions were unfavourable in Southland. After traveling and spending time in Australia, familiar with the country life he settled on the West Coast of New Zealand at Waimangaroa, where he established the Baxter family. Tom had little trouble attracting the ladies. He married three times and was a father to seven children either through blood relation or marriage. Highly intelligent and skilled with his hands. Tom had respect for nature, the environment and the lives of animals.

Research Notes

Occupation: Diesel Mechanic, Mechanical Supervisor.Land Developer.
Education:

Pukemaori Primary school Waiau College Tuatapere Southland Polytechnic

Religion:

Raised as Presbyterian but now a sceptical observer of the problems religion is and has caused around the world. Leaning towards Salvation Army that is actually geared towards helping those in need rather than pomp and ceremony and promoting " Princes of religion"..

Although I never met him, I remember Tom as a kind, generous man. His assistance in finding ancestors on WikiTree and elsewhere was always willing and very helpful. His life left a mark on this genealogy site. I'm glad I met him here. ~

Lyn Thiele, one of his Aussie cousins.

Hello,

I didn't know Tom for long, so I've hesitated to add to this as there are others who knew him better than I. Sadly Tom died on the 17th of December, 2015 in Westport, New Zealand. I'm sure he's missed by all who knew him, including me. Lyn (Lynette (Bailey) Thiele)

Hi Tom,

I've just altered Uncle Bert's second name to Lubury. I don't know why we always thought it was Ludwig! Perhaps our Dad, Ronald Eric Bailey didn't remember what it was or couldn't spell it! All the NZ records have it as Lubury. Lyn Thiele

Hi,

I noticed your new Club 100 badge.

Congratulations ?

Keep up the nice work,

Guy

Hello Tom

Just noticed the photo you put on Thomas Franklin Parkes page. I'm sorry to be grumpy old bugger but that is not Thomas. The main reason is this Gentleman is wearing a NZ uniform, Thomas was with the Shropshire, Warwickshire and lastly the Royal Machine Gun Corps all of which are English forces. Keep up the good work. We're very pleased you decided to join our community and hope you'll have great success in finding cousins with whom to collaborate.

On WikiTree, our mission is to build a global tree with just one profile for every individual person. In order to make it easier to search for duplicates, it's important to add a birth or death date and place to each profile. Please estimate a date if you don't know the exact date. For the health of our shared tree, please add documentation and sources to each profile you create. In the upper right hand corner, you'll find several drop-down-boxes that will prove very useful to you. You might review the help page before you begin this new adventure. The help pages are filled with answers to many questions you may have.

We hope your experience as a WikiTreer will be very productive.
