Skinner, Mrs. Elmer: Mrs. Garnet Skinner, 63, of Milltown, Newport Rt. 1, died at 4:50 p.m. yesterday in Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born January 8, 1906, at Milltown, a daughter of the late George and Viola Dearth Bayless. She was married to Elmer Skinner who survives with two sons and seven daughters; James Skinner of Newport; Pvt. John Skinner, U.S. Army, Fort Hood TX.; Mrs. Ed( Hildreth) Thompson, Mrs. John (Violet) Bleakley and Mrs. Louis (Louise) Owens of Salem; Mrs. Larry (Gertrude) Hashman of Hobart, IN; Mrs. Ralph Streight of Portage IN.; Mrs. Norman (Merna) Berga of Vermillion and Mrs. Delores Scott of Lorain. There are 31 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One sister Mrs. Lillian Houser of Williamstown and a number of half-brothers and half-sisters survive. A son, Larry, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and a brother, Howard Bayless, are deceased. Mrs. Skinner had spent most of her life in the Milltown community. She was a member of Newport Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Newport Baptist Church. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call at Doudna & McClure Funeral Home until one hour before the service when the body will be taken to the church. [Marietta Times 02 Jan 1970]
