Arthur James Beale was born on 13 September 1902 at Witney in Oxfordshire. He was the son of Henry Beale and his wife Charlotte Elizabeth, born Charlotte Elizabeth Long. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

In 1911 Arthur James Beale was living at 20 Woodgreen in Witney with his parents, Henry and Charlotte Elizabeth, and their other children. His age was given as 8, implying a birth date in 1902 or 1903. His birthplace was given as Witney, Oxfordshire. ^[2]
