Biography

Hannah is understood to have been born around London in about 1748.

She ultimately joined with Thomas Reynolds (1743-?) and together they had at least 5 children:

  1. Elizabeth Reynolds: Birth 14 November 1763 13 15 , , England, United Kingdom
  2. Thomas Reynolds: Birth 1 April 1765 15 17 , , England, United Kingdom
  3. Edward Reynolds: Birth 3 August 1767 17 19 , , England, United Kingdom; Death 14 May 1830 (Age 62) Wilberforce, Hawkesbury, New South Wales,
  4. Richard Beale Reynolds: Birth 19 November 1769 19 21 Stepney, London, England, United Kingdom; Death 26 August 1837 (Age 67) Wilberforce, Hawkesbury, New South Wales, Australia
  5. John Reynolds: Birth 14 January 1772 22 24 , , England, United Kingdom

Hannah is presumed to have died in England some time after the birth of her youngest son in 1772.

Research Notes

It is noted that someone has recently created a Find a Grave memorial for Hannah which indicates that she emigrated to and died in New South Wales in 1826 and was buried with her sons Edward and Richard at Wilberforce. Refer Find A Grave: Memorial #220820435.

In the absence of any primary sources supporting the Find a Grave information, WikiTree members are cautioned against adopting those details for the following reasons;

  1. The copy of son Edward’s diary in Windsor Library makes no reference to his mother’s presence in the Colony or to her death and burial here in 1826. This despite references to other members of his family and household in the same era.
  2. The book by Cathy McHardy and Nicholas McHardy, ‘ Sacred to the memory: A study of Wilberforce Cemetery’, December 2003, makes no reference to any such burial or memorial in Wilberforce Cemetery
  3. Personal inspection of the graves at Wilberforce and funeral and burial records held at the adjacent St John’s Anglican Church also reveals no evidence of any such death or burial there in that era.
