Martha was born about 1840. Martha is the child of Alanson Beals and his wife Maria.
The 1855 Massachusetts State Census recorded Alanson C. Beals, age 50, in Leverett, Massachusetts, with Maria Beals, age 49, Martha E. Beals, 14, Ellen H. Beals, 12, and George Beals, 4. All were born in Massachusetts. Alanson was described as a shoemaker.[1]
The 1865 Massachusetts State Census recorded Martha Beals, age 24 and unmarried, in her parents' household in Leverett. Household members were Alanson Beals, age 60, Maria Beals, 59, Martha Beals, 24, and George L. Beals, 15. All were born Massachusetts. Alanson was a shoemaker and George was a farmer; Martha was not recorded with an occupation. [2]
In 1903 she married Lysander W. Ford, as his second wife. She was 63 years old at the time of her marriage.[3] They had no children.
Her grand-niece Doris Clark lived with her in East Leverett while teaching school.[4]
