George Beals was the son of Alanson C. Beals and Maria _____. He was born in Shutesbury, Massachusetts on December 9, 1850. The family later moved from Shutesbury to the adjoining town of Leverett.
The 1855 Massachusetts State Census recorded Alanson C. Beals, age 50, in Leverett, Massachusetts, with Maria Beals, age 49, Martha E. Beals, 14, Ellen H. Beals, 12, and George Beals, 4. All were born in Massachusetts. Alanson was described as a shoemaker.[1]
The 1865 Massachusetts State Census recorded Alanson Beals, age 60, in Leverett, with Maria Beals, 59, Martha Beals, 24, and George L. Beals, 15. All were born Massachusetts. Alanson was a shoemaker and George was a farmer. [2]
George lived in Leverett and worked as a blacksmith. He married Jane Isadore Marvel in Leverett on Feb 19, 1873. They had a daughter, Lillian Ethel Beals. On January 9, 1876, George died of consumption at age 25 at Leverett, Massachusetts.
