John was a Friend (Quaker)

Biography

John Beals was born in Chester County on February 17, 1717. He married Margaret Esther Hunt in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The marriage is recorded in the minutes of the Nottingham Meeting as having taken place on November 13, 1738. Margaret Hunt was the daughter of William Hunt and Mary Woolman. She was born in 1719 in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

They moved to northern Virginia and were members of the Hopewell meeting until April 14, 1758 when they were granted certificates to move to Rowan County, North Carolina and join the New Garden Monthly Meeting that had been established there. They were received there on May 27, 1758. They settled on a 300 acre farm near Pole Cat Creek in what was then Rowan County. They lived on that farm all their lives. The land originally was in Rowan, then as new counties were formed, it was part of Guilford County when it was formed in 1770.

Here is a transcript of a Rowan County record showing the purchase of 302 acres of land lying on the upper fork of Polecat Creek by John Beals for 26 pounds from William Coltrain and Rachel his wife. The purchase appears to have been dated 21 August 1760.

Margaret Beals died on the farm on April 11, 1796 and John died there the following week on April 17, 1796 at age eighty.

Beals-368 and Beals-73 appear to represent the same person because: When gave John Beals 368 birth and death, match John Beals-73

FYI - it would be good if this profile could be re-written for originality, per wikitree guidelines. It appears it may be copied and pasted from a source.

Beals-163 and Beals-73 appear to represent the same person because: they are the same person, please merge Beals-163 into Beals-73.

I was just about to propose this same merge. Yes, Beals-163 and Beals-73 are the same person, although there is very little info for Beals-163 so that profile could just be eliminated.

Beals-73 and Beals-706 appear to represent the same person because: The difference in month of birth, April was the second month at the time Old Style.
Bales-272 and Beals-153 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents and same name. Dates should be filled in on Bales-272, and profiles over 200 years old should be open. Family name as adopted by later generations was 'Beals'. Thanks.
