John Beard was born in Gloucestershire, England.

When John Beard was born on 10 October 1848 ^[1], in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom, his father, Moses Beard, was 21 and his mother, Mary Mann, was 33. He was christened on 13 Dec 1848 ^[2] in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom.

In 1851 ^[3] John lived with his parents Moses and Mary in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom.

John travelled aboard the City of Bristol in 1857 ^[4] with his parents Moses and Mary, siblings Jane and Ernest, his uncle Cornelius, Aunt Sarah-Frederick and cousin Sarah. They arrived in Western Australia and headed to Northam. They took up 60 acres to farm together, worked hard and took up a further 40 acres.

He married Mary Ann Cousins on 20 August 1874 ^[5], in Northam, Western Australia, Australia. They were the parents of at 3 sons and 4 daughters.

In May 1884 he was widowed and left to raise a young family. He took Emily Cousins as a common law wife at that time.

John married Sarah Gibson on 22 October 1885 ^[6] in Northam, Western Australia. They had eleven children together.

In 1906 John lived in Malabaine, Western Australia with his wife Sarah. He was a farmer at that time.
