"George F. Beard died Monday evening at 5,15 o'clock, at his home on Clayton avenue, aged 84 years, 2 months and 26 days.

"Mr. Beard suffered a paralytic stroke last Wednesday and did not regain consciousness after that time.

"George F. Beard was born November 3, 1833, at Fountaindale, Adams County, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Beard, and was the last member of a family of ten children. He spent the greater part of his life at Fountaindale and was a very active farmer in that vicinity for many years.

"He moved to Waynesboro about thirty years ago and has been living a retired life here.

"Mr. Beard was married twice, his first marriage being to Katharine Buhrman, on August 30, 1855, at Fountaindale. She died in 1866 and later he married Amanda Hofleigh, on September 5, 1867, at Fountaindale. His second wife died at his home here about four years ago.

"He was a member of the Lutheran church and a very well known and highly respected man in the community.

"Surviving are these children: Mrs. M.W. Wile, Worcester, Ohio; Mrs. C.A. Coffman, North Church street, and Mrs. Frank F. Criswell, Clayton avenue. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. ..."

George had a subsequent marriage to Amanda Hafleigh, with several children by that marriage.
