I was told Curl we do have Curl surname I'm out family. Carl/Curl is one of the few I met from my family. He still has one daughter living. She took care of him. Her name is Jeannette Norris on Facebook. She still lives there.I will ask again. Mary.

In a related matter, the event that appeared on the "feed" this morning was that Bill Vincent added the middle name "Preston". In the review mentioned earlier, I can say that the ONLY occasion where "Preston" occurs is on various Ancestry trees, none with evidence. On the contrary, the WWII Draft Card, typed, shows the name, Carl P. (Initial only) Beasley. I will suggest that the addition of "Preston" should be reversed.

I routinely review Beasleys with changes noted on the activity feed. What immediately struck me was the statement in the Research Note that is contradictory. While evidence may support one position or another, I don't think it is good to let a contradictory statement stand. Upon review, the statement "name is Curl not Carl" was entered upon creation of the profile in 2015 by Mary King. At the same time, it appears that the "Proper First Name" is Carl and "Preferred name" is Curl, also by Mary King? (I don't see any changes in those fields.) In 2017, Robin White added the parenthetical statement which was intended to support the "Proper" name as Carl. I would say that the use of "is" (Name IS Curl not Carl) would suggest to me "The Proper (or Given) name is Carl but he went by Curl." is congruent with the names stated in the Profile "name" fields.

To begin with, I would ask Mary if that is what she intended to say.

The followup statement by Robin suggests that the evidence supports the name "Carl". I would ask her if she agreed that the preferred name was "Curl" or is she saying that his name was given and used as "Carl".

FROM THIS POINT, I HAVE MADE A SIGNIFICANT REVISION OF MY ORIGINAL STATEMENT

A closer review of the available documents, I find 11 sources, 8 of which have available images. From the Censuses for 1900, 1910, and 1920 plus the 1918 WWI draft registration, it is clear that the name "Curl" or "Curl P" was used. Documents from 1929 to his death in 1986, he went by Carl or Carl P. This could be viewed one of two ways: 1) His parents gave him the name "Curl" but he later thought it too "cutesie" and changed it to Carl, 2) He was given the name Carl but used a nickname "Curl" by the family. As an adult, he went by his "given name", Carl P Beasley. Lacking a birth record or clear evidence of the parents' intent, the actual given name is unknowable. To me, conventional thought would suggest the latter, that "Curl" was a childhood nickname.

The present listing as "Carl Preston (Curl) Beasley" with Curl being the "preferred" name is hardly supported as he appears to have preferred Carl for his adult life. Therefore, I would change Curl from "Preferred" to "other names". And, as I mentioned in an additional statement, the middle name "Preston" should be reversed for lack of evidence.

The "Research Note" is unclear if not contradictory and should be dropped, the rest rewritten. I will wait a bit before making changes allowing for comments of others. In the meantime, I'm attaching my source list. Doug Beezley, Administrator Beasley Surname Study
