Biography

Theodosia was the daughter of James Beasley (1725-1803) and Ann Reynolds (1733-1810). [1] She was mentioned in the will of her father in 1798 as, "Theodosia Mullins," along with several siblings who had already received what was considered their portion of his estate. [2] She is also mentioned in the will of her second husband as "my wife Docia Dula (formerly Docia Beasley) the daughter of James Beasley," [3]Her birth date is given as May 1755 or 1757, and it is said she was born in Swift Run Gap in Orange County, Virginia.

She first married John Patrick McMullan (1740-1817, an Irish immigrant, in about 1769 and had 5 children. They then separated (the Dula family researchers claim the elopement with Capt. William Dula was about 1781) abandoning her family, and she married Capt. William S. Dula (1755-1835) on Apr. 5, 1790 [4] [5] in Wilkes Co., NC. They had 7 more children. William died in 1835 and she followed 9 years later on 16 June 1844..

Children from 1st marriage

John and Theodosia Beasley McMullan had five children, all but two of whom, James and Mary, moved to Georgia in 1779 with their father.

Research Note

This profile is one of 11 Reynolds profiles incorrectly listed as children of James Beasley and Ann Reynolds. I have disconnected the relationship, leaving them unconnected because I don't know where they actually belong. Here is a list of the disconnected Reynolds profiles:

Catherine Reynolds Reynolds-13359 Charles Reynolds Reynolds-13358 Mildred Reynolds Reynolds-13357 James Reynolds Reynolds-13356 Elizabeth Reynolds Reynolds-13355 Theodocia Reynolds Reynolds-13353 William Reynolds Reynolds-13352 Sarah Reynolds Reynolds-13363 John Reynolds Reynolds-13361 John Reynolds Reynolds-13360 Edmond Reynolds Reynolds-13362

There are Reynolds families connected with this Beasley line but they are of Essex County VA, not Albemarle/Orange Counties referenced as Russell Jones and Ann Beasley.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Theodocia by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Theodocia:

Reynolds-13353 and Beasley-1578 appear to represent the same person because: This is one of numerous profiles duplicating the children of James Beasley and wife Ann Reynolds. The duplicate profiles for the children appear to have been first created by attachment with their mother, therefore ended up with her LNAB. I will be proposing merges of these to be cleaned up by merge into the correct LNAB Beasley. They have no sources or any indication they are not the same. Thanks, Honi
