The third child, but first daughter of Thomas and Sarah Beaty, Sarah Jane was born on Wednesday, April 25, 1849 in DeKalb County, Georgia. T.R. and Sarah were 28 and 24 respectively at the time of her birth. Sarah Jane was baptized as a Baptist in Santo, Palo Pinto County, Texas. "Miss Sally," as they called her, was married at age 18 to John Green Tyson on Sunday, December 29, 1867 in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia by Judge Lambert at the home of T.R. Beaty in the presence of family and friends. Out of their union six children were born in Georgia: Sarah Frances, Charles Lee, Beulah Beatrice, William Dickson, Maude Alice, and John Luther. Sarah Jane's husband, John Tyson, served as 1st Lieutenant in Company F of Cobb's Georgia Legion in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.29 John Tyson was mustered in at 20 years old on August 15, 1861 in Carroll County, Georgia. John G. Tyson was promoted on several occasions during his military service from 1st Sergeant all the way to 1st Lieutenant. The record shows that he was on sick furlough for 40 days beginning on July 1862. He also was missing, captured or killed on June 1, 1864 at Cold Harbor, Virginia. As it turns out, he was a prisoner of war and had been taken to Point Lookout Mountain, Maryland and then to White House, Virginia and finally Fort Delaware, Delaware. John stayed there to the end of the war and was forced to take “that damn nasty oath,” an Oath of Allegiance to the United States Government and did so at Fort Delaware, Delaware and was released to go home on June 15, 1865. Two years after the war Sarah Jane and John Tyson marry and almost three years after their marriage the young family is settled in Floyd County, Georgia. In 1880, the Tyson family moved one county to the north and lived very close to Alex Beaty in Chattooga County, Georgia. At the time, John Tyson had 2 mules or asses and 2 milch cows with 2 other cows. He had 2 calves born and purchased 1 other. The total value of all farm land, fences, and buildings was $1,500.00. The total of all livestock was $200.00 and $628.00 total of all products consumed. They lost 2 cows who either strayed were stolen or were dead. They had 60 pounds of butter. Their livestock consist of 17 swine and 45 barn-yard animals and 16 other and had 700 eggs produced. He grew on about 60 acres of land 22 acres of Indian corn which produced 322 bushels and 6 acres of cotton which produced 40 bales. He had 17 acres of sweet potatoes which produced 187 bushels. He also had 50 peach trees bearing fruit. In 1887, the family went to live in Ozark, Arkansas for about six years. There is evidence to suggest Sarah Jane went to visit her mother and father in Indian Territory. In a letter dated September 1888, Sarah tells her younger sister, Huldah about the territory: "I know you would like to know how I like the territory. I do not like it near as well as I do Arkansas, it is too low and flat although it looks like a good country but I believe Arkansas is better than it is here and it is none too healthy, but I had rather risk our health there than here. They have all been chilling here and have not had any chill at our house but I want you all to understand that I am not bragging on Arkansas for I never do want anyone to come west by my influences. I must soon close for the present. I do hope and trust and pray that Ma & Pa & Jeff and all the rest will soon be well." The family moved to Santo, Palo Pinto County, Texas in December of 1892. Their oldest son, Charles Lee Tyson was first to migrate westward and encouraged them to follow; his letters to them were dated August and September of 1892. In 1900 the John Tyson family is beside most of the Beaty family in Palo Pinto County, Texas. John G. Tyson was born on Monday, January 25, 1841 and died on Thursday, October 21, 1926 in Santo, Palo Pinto County, Texas. His funeral services were at Santo Baptist Church on Friday, October 22, 1926 at 3 p.m. At the age of 88, Sarah Jane died at 11:55 p.m. from a form of pneumonia on Tuesday, March 1, 1938 in Santo, Palo Pinto County, Texas and was buried two days later beside her husband in the North Santo Cemetery, Palo Pinto County, Texas.
