Biography

Joan Beaumont was born circa 1289, at Witnesham, Woodbrodge, Suffolk, England.[1]

Joan was the daughter of Richard Beaumont of Witnesham and his wife, Alice.[1]

Joan was married twice:

  1. Sir Giles de Braose of Stinton and Ludborough,[1] who died before 6 February, 1311,[2] with whom Joan had children:
    1. Richard de Breuse, born circa 1302,[2] died before 1320;[3]
    2. Robert de Brewes, born before 34 Edward I [1305-6],[2] died before 12 July, 1325;[3]
    3. Sir John de Braose of Stinton and Ludsborough, born 10 August, 1306;[1]
  2. Edmund Bacon married Joan de Brewes;[4] Joan and Edmund had children:
    1. Margery Bacun, who was married to William de Kerdeston,[4] and they had;
      1. Maud who was married to John Burghwash,[4] and they had:
        1. John de Burghhaissh, aged 18 in 1361,[4] born 1343;

An Inquisition was taken after the death of Joan's first husband, Giles de Brewosa alias de Breuse, de Breouse, following a writ issued on 6 February, 4 Edward II [1311], which found that his heir was Richard de Breuse, son of Giles and his wife, Joan, who was aged 9 that year.[2] Giles, his wife, Joan, and their son Richard, held Lutheburgh, Lincolnshire, jointly by the gift of Roger de Breuse by fine levied in the king's court in 34 Edward I, to be held to them and the heirs of the body of Richard, with remainder to his brother, Robert, and the heirs of his body, with remainder to the right heirs of Giles.[2]

On 22 May 1325, from Bordeaux, Edmund of Woodstock, earl of Kent, sent a request to Hugh le Despenser, jnr, for Edmund Bacon to have the marriage of John de Braose,[5] presumably Edmund's stepson who would have been 19 years old at the time.

Joan Beaumont died in 1332.[6] Joan's widower, Edmund Bacon, married Margery Pounynges, and died about the feast of the Annunciation [15 March], 10 Edward III [1336].[4]
