Josephine Molitor was born on February 2, 1860 in Minnesota. She is the daughter of Mathias Molitor and Margareta Hess. [1] [2]
The 1870 Federal Census listed Josephine as living with her step-father Christian, her mother Margareta, her step-sisters Sophia Beck and Mary Beck, her sister Theresa Beck, her step-brother Christian Beck, II and her brothers Albert J. Beck and Alexander Beck in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. [3] (Note: Josephine was using the surname Beck.)
On July 30, 1878, Josephine Molitor and Mary Beck were witnesses for their sister Catharina's wedding to Joachim Born in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. [4]
The 1880 Federal Census listed Josephine as living with her mother Margareta, her sister Theresa and her brothers Albert J., Alexander and John J. Beck at 511 Old Camp Street in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. [5]
Josephine Molitor (Beck) married Caspar Molitor circa 1881 in Buffalo, new York.
Josephine gave birth to her five children, three of whom were living in 1896. Her daughter Bertha Mina on January 8, 1884 in Danbury Township, Ottawa, Ohio; [6] her daughter Teresa Josephine on March 21, 1885 in Marblehead, Ottawa, Ohio; [7] and her daughter Margaret "Marguerite" on February 12, 1889 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. [8] [9]
The 1900 Federal census listed Josephine as living with her husband Caspar and her daughters Bertha Mina, Teresa Josephine and Margaret "Marguerite" in Danbury Township, Ottawa, Ohio. [10]
The marriage ended when Josephine's husband Caspar passed away on January 10, 1906.
The 1910 Federal census listed Josephine as living with her daughters Bertha Mina, Teresa Josephine and Margaret "Marguerite" in Danbury Township, Ottawa, Ohio. [11]
The 1919 Norwood City Directory listed Josephine as living with her daughters Bertha Mina and Margaret "Marguerite" at 2359 Mound Avenue in Norwood. [12]
The 1925 Cincinnati City Directory listed Josephine as living at 87 Hereford Avenue in Cincinnati. [13]
Josephine passed away on March 26, 1927 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio at age 67. [14] She was living at 87 Hereford Avenue. She was cremated on March 28, 1927 and the grave stone is located at Oakland Cemetery in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio. [15]
In a May 1, 1927 newspaper article, it was stated, "BURY ASHES, FORMER PENINSULA WOMAN HERE ON SATURDAY - MARBLEHEAD, April 30 - (Special) - The ashes of Mrs. Josephine Molitor, formerly of Marblehead will be interred in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky on May 7, according to advices received here from Cincinnati. Mrs. Molitor died in the Queen City on March 26. The body was cremated. Funeral services, at the family burial lot, will be conducted at 11 a. m. next Saturday. [16]
