Ulrich Beck was born about 1654, possibly in (today) Oberriexingen, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, where his children were born.[1] However, the Evangelical Church at Oberriexingen only has baptismal records starting from 1670.[2] His parents have not been identified. At the time the Beck family resided in this region, it was considered part of the Holy Roman Empire.
He married Margaretha, whose last name may have been Schraÿ. The only evidence supporting this comes from a Beck Family History compiled in 1930, by Clarence Beck.[3] No marriage record has been located. Please see Margaretha's profile.
Children of Ulrich & Margaretha Beck:all born in Oberriexingen[1]
Johann Georg (Hans Jerg), bapt: 14 May 1705,[10] married 21 Jun 1729 Anna Maria Gucker[11][12]
Ulrich Beck was buried 20 May 1729 in Oberriexingen. [13][14][15]
Notes
Not the son of Jacob Beck & Anna Leitze:
Some researchers believe Ulrich to be the son of Jacob Beck and Anna Leitze, christened 12 May 1655 in Eningen, Württemberg.[16] However, that Ulrich died 29 May 1659 in Eningen. He is identified as the son of Jacob, age 4.[17]
Incorrect Place of Death:
Some sources say that Ulrich migrated to Pennsylvania and died 20 May 1729, age 74, in Mount Bethel, Northampton, Pennsylvania. However, the first settlers of what was later known as Mount Bethel didn't arrive until 1730 when Alexander Hunter with thirty Scotch-Irish families settled there in what was then Buck's County, part of which formed Northampton County when it was created in 1752.
