Louisa Beck was born in 1857 in Buffalo, Erie, New York. She was the daughter of Christian Beck and Sabina (Sophia) Hermann. [1] [2] [3]
The 1860 Federal Census listed Louisa as living with her parents Christian and Sabina, her sisters Catharina (Sophia) Beck, Sophia (Maria) Beck and Mary (Julia) Beck and her brother Christian Beck II in St. Louis Independent City, St. Louis, Missouri. [4] (Note: The date this census was taken was June 15, 1860.)
Louisa moved with her family from St. Louis Independent City, St. Louis, Missouri to New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana in the July to early September 1860 time-frame.
Louisa's mother Sabina (Sophia) passed away on September 10, 1860 in New Orleans.
Louisa's father Christian unable to give his little ones proper care and attention, placed them with the School Sisters of the Notre Dame at St. Joseph Orphan Asylum in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. Here they had the happiness of receiving Baptism on Holy Saturday, March 30, 1861. [5] (Note: The School Sisters of the Notre Dame took over the administration of the Orphan Asylum in 1860. It was located at 835 Josephine Street at its corner with Laurel Street.)
Sophia's father Christian married second Margareta Hess Moledore circa June 1862. She had a daughter Josephine Unknown. The family was then reunited.
The 1870 Federal Census listed Louisa as a domestic servant with the Family of Philip and Margaret Anthony and their three children in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. [6]
Louisa's father Christian passed away on September 15, 1873 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. At the time of his death, he left four minor children from his marriage with Margaret; Albert Joseph Beck age about 11 years, Alexander Beck age about 9 years, Theresa Beck age about 7 years and John J. Beck age about 3 years. He also left five children from his first marriage with Sabina (Sophia) Hermann; Catharina (Sophia) Beck of age, Sophia (Maria) Beck of age, and Christian Beck, II, Louisa Beck and Mary (Julia) Beck, minors. Louisa Beck married John Theodore Stelljes on July 1, 1875 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana by the Rev. Joseph Colonel. The witnesses were her future brother-in-law Joachim J. "James" Born and her sister Catharina Beck. [8]
Louisa gave birth to her son James Joachim on May 9, 1876 [9]; her daughter Mary in 1879 who passed away on March 26, 1886 [10]; her daughter Josephine Stelljes on December 28, 1881 [11] ; her son John Paul on March 20, 1879 [12]; her daughter Mary (Marie) on December 2, 1883; her son Joseph Ferdinand on September 12, 1888 [13]; and, her son Frank Anthony on March 16, 1890. [14] They were all born in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana
Louisa passed away on August 22, 1898 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana at age 41. [15]
Louisa and John Stelljes's daughter Mary Stellijes married John Vincent Micas' and Mary Justine Jones' son John William Micas on january 21, 1902 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. [16]
