Research Note

Adelia was likely a granddaughter of Worden Beckwith and Martha Steadman. (Leanne Cooper has DNA matches with descendants of Worden Beckwith and Martha Steadman, and Adelia had children named Worden, Martha and Steadman) It seems most likely that Adelia's father was Enoch Beckwith as this was the only one of Worden Beckwith's sons that lived in Salisbury, NB, but this needs to be confirmed.

Given that she had a son named "Handley Chipman Lockhart", could her mother be a daughter or granddaughter of Handley Chipman? Possibilities:

  • Rebecca Chipman (unlikely - married to Barnaby)
  • Rebecca Beckwith (daughter of Samuel Beckwith Jr. & Rebecca Chipman). There is no evidence to support this theory. Leanne Cooper tried attaching this person to her Ancestry tree to see if there would be additional "shared ancestor hints", indicating that some of her DNA matches were also descendants of ancestors of this person. The only additional shared ancestors were Handley Chipman. There were none from other ancestors of Rebecca Beckwith.
  • a daughter of Handley Chipman and his 2nd wife, Nancy Post
    • Adelia's mother, Rebecca Unknown was likely born between 1780 and 1790 (her husband was born 1779. Her first child was born 1806.) Handley Chipman had a daughter Rebecca with his first wife. She died in 1778. He could have named a daughter born to his 2nd wife after her.
    • Leanne Cooper tried attaching adding Handley Chipman and Nancy Post as Rebecca's parents in her Ancestry tree to see if there would be additional "shared ancestor hints". This resulted in several new shared ancestor hints with descendants of Handley Chipman and Nancy Post, and descendants of their ancestors.
