Text: PETER BRYCE BEDELL, III07- 10- 1914 ~ 05- 19- 2010Peter Bryce Bedell III, age 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in Corpus Christi, TX. "Pete" was born on July 10, 1914 in Ransom, Pennsylvania. He was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Pete was a quiet man, never complaining, was very intelligent and inquisitive and will be remembered with great love.Pete is preceded in death by his parents Peter B. Bedell, Jr. and Eva Mussleman Bedell and his four brothers and sisters; and he is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Katherine Dromgoole Bedell, son Leonard A. Bedell and wife Margaret, daughter Laura Bedell Richardson and husband David, grandson William Lee Bedell and his wife Gina and son Jonathan; all of Houston, TX, and grandson Justin Bryce Richardson of New York City, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Pete was raised in a Christian orphanage in Pennsylvania when his dad died of pneumonia a month before he was born; he was the youngest of 5 children. Pete graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia, PA in 1930 and came to Texas for a vacation in the summer of 1938. He returned to Corpus Christi as a permanent resident, working as a hotel auditor in the summer of 1939. Pete served honorably with the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific and was with the first American land forces in Australia and Papua, New Guinea.Pete returned to Corpus Christi after the war, worked in property insurance and as an accountant; and retired from the Port of Corpus Christi in 1981.The family wishes to thank Dr. Stephen H. Barth, Ken Painter, Audrey Allen, Thelma Aguilar and Nurses on Wheels Hospice Care, for their care, compassion and personal attention.Visitation will be from 6:00 8:00 pm on May 21, 2010, and a Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.
