Biography

According to Frank Doherty, Reuben was likely born about 1735 and married as "Reuben Beagle, joiner of Dutchess county, Elizabeth Losee , spinster (bonds) 10 June 1760 at the Rombout Presbyterian Church , Fiskill, Dutchess County, New York. Daniel Ter Bos and Mathew DuBois were on bond for him (according to New York Marriage Bonds).

They had two children. The older was Elizabeth.

Reuben was a lieutenant in a company of militia in Dutchess Co. 14 May 1759. He was commissioned 28 April 1759. His wife Elizabeth died 6 Jan 1769 at age 32 and was buried in the Community Ground in Fishkill Plains.

Reuben was taxed in Rombout 1755-1775 and then in Beeman from 1777-1778.

Rombout is a precinct in the Town of Fishkill which is in the south-west part of Dutchess County, New York. It lies approximately 60 miles north of central Manhattan, New York City.

Fishkill played an important role in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) when a huge military encampment was established one mile below the village to guard the mountain pass to the south. Signal fires lay in readiness on tops of the surrounding mountains. The Fishkill encampment became the main supply depot for the northern division of the Continental Army. The first copies of the New York State Constitution were printed at Fishkill in 1777
