Research Notes

  1. ) In the Waterbury Barbour record, it is noted that Reuben Beebe Jr., son of Ephraim, married Hannah Scott. How is it that Reuben carries the Junior designation when his father is clearly identified as Ephraim? Possible explanations, 1) the Primary record is incorrect and his father was actually Reuben Sr. 2) the primary record is incorrect and he should not be labeled Jr. {Editorial, this is exceedingly unlikely as the Reuben Jr designation is used at least five other times in referring to him in the record}, 3) Junior was part of his given name or 4) There are two Reuben Beebes born within a year of each other cataloged in this Waterbury Barbour record. Reuben, the son of Jonathan was the older of the two, and Reuben, the son of Ephraim, was the younger; the boys were first cousins and born within a year of each other. Hence the Jr. designation provided a method to separate the identities of these two men; this is the most probable explanation and is the interpretation used in this profile.
