Jacques was born on 25 July 1720 in L'Islet, Canada, Nouvelle-France, the son of Jean François Belanger and Geneviève Thibaud. He was baptized the same day in Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours and his godparents were Prisque Leonard and Marie Marthe Belanger.[1]
On 31 January 1746 in L'Islet, Jacques Belanger son of Jean François Belanger
married Marie Cecile Bluteau daughter of Etienne Bluteau in the church of Notre-Dame-des-Secours. Present at the wedding were Jean François Belanger, Ignace Belanger, Louis Belanger, and Joseph Belanger from the bride's side; Jean Gaudreau and many other family and friends. [2]
On 6 September 1756 Jacques Belanger, widower of the late Marie Cecile Bluteau, married Marie Louise Ruel, widow of the late Joachim Caron, in Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours. Present at the wedding were Jean François Belangé, Igance Belangé, Basil and Bonaventure Caron.[4]
Jacques died on or before 10 April 1794 in Kamouraska after having received the sacrament of the sick. He was buried on 10 April 1794 in the parish cemetery of Saint-Louis-de-Kamouoraska and was given "all the ceremonies accustomed to our Holy Mother Church" ("toutes les ceremonies accoutumé par notre mère la Sainte Eglise"). Present at the burial was Pierre Lalonde and Pierre Mouton, and many others. [5]
NOTE: The burial record incorrectly names him as Pierre Belanger ... theory is that there were just too many Pierres in one place and the priest was confused. All facts seem to point that this is indeed Jacques Belanger. Jacques was alive at the time of his daughter Josephte's wedding in 1793, but was deceased by the time of his son Louis André's wedding on 12 August 1794.
