Biography

1776 Project
Sergeant Joseph Belcher served with Middlesex County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

Joseph was baptised on 13 July 1755 in Framingham, Massachusetts. He was the son of Jonathan Belcher (1707-1787).[1]

Joseph served in the American Revolution. He was a private in Captain Moses Harrington;s company; Colonel Dike's regiment from 20 December 1776 to 1 March 1777. He marched to Ticonderoga, New York. He enlisted for three months, as a sergeant, and served at Dorchester, Massachusetts. [2]

He married Hannah (Kendall) Belcher (1756-1854) in May 1782, in Framingham, Massachusetts.[3]

Joseph collected a pension for his Revolutionary War service. W.23558[4] [5] Joseph died 28 June 1833, in Framingham, Massachusetts. His widow Hannah applied for a widow's pension.
