Robert (Belcher) Belshee Jr was a Virginia colonist.

Robert Jr was born on 3 Jan 1755, Bristol Parish, Augusta Co., Virginia, the son of Robert Sr and Margaret (PERKINSON) BELCHER.[citation needed]

Robert "Belshe" married Mary Clancy on 3 Jan 1783 in Rockingham County, Virginia.[1]

Robert received a grant for 100 acres (survey date 8 Jan 1790) on Pounding Mill Run between Paint Lick Mountain and Diskins Mountain in Russell, Virginia on 11 May 1793[2] as well as a parcel of 89 acres in Russell County, Virginia on the same date located near the Maiden Spring Fork of the Clinch River adjoining Edward Young.[3] On 25 Aug 1796, Robert received a land grant for 100 acres in Wythe County on the South fork of Maiden Spring, a branch of Clinch River adjoining John Young, Robert Campbell and extending.[4]

Robert Belshee's will was dated 19 Apr 1802 and probated 13 May 1802. He mentions his wife Mary; daughters Elizabeth, Phebe; sons Robert, David, Thomas, Richard, Joshua, Joseph.[5]

Records indicate that his father's last name was Bellshire. [citation needed]

Some of Robert's children used the name Belshe and Belsher. The marriage record shows his last name as Belshe.[6]

Robert's children:

  • Robert, Jr (before 1780-1855) m Elizabeth Green 1809, Wayne Co KY and moved to Spring Garden, Missouri in 1833 with a large family
  • Joseph (1784-1804) m Margaret Ward in 1800. His widow remarried after he died about age 20 and there are some reports of a child born shortly after Joseph’s death (Betsey) but I cannot find the source document. Polly m John Smith between 1805 and 1807 and Polly and John continued to appear on Belshee records after that.
  • Joshua (1791-1867) m Mary They had five children in the 1850 Census of Tazewell Co
  • Thomas ( c1793- ) m Betsy Lee 1806, in Madison Co KY
  • David (c1795- ) m Eleanor Asbury. They moved to Linn Co MO.
  • Phoebe (1795-1866) m James Stephenson (brother to David who Married the other Phebe, William’s daughter). They had 7 children on the Tazewell Co. 1860 census.
  • Richard (1801-1885) m 1) Peggy Goodwin 1826; 2) Nancy McMillian 1830 and moved to Kentucky and then before 1849 to Grundy Co. MO
  • Elizabeth – no information

His children Robert, Thomas, and Phebe are all born before his marriage to Mary Clancy, indicating he was previously married and Mary would not be their mother.
What source lists his exact date of birth? I believe his father's name was Belshe or Bellshe, as noted in a record of 2 Jan 1761 in a petition: https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/6329019?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22325348634f47334435437a49787a313258464a72556e37674244527230702f4a343854746b39534d3437513d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d . This would indicate that he should have his LNAB changed.
