Biography

Jonathan Belding, son of Stephen and Mary Wells, was b. 1694, in Hadley, Massachusetts. [1]

Lieutenant Belding was a soldier in Ralle's war in 1724. He received, in 1717, 12 acres of upland as a grant on which he was to build a sawmill at Northfield, Massachusett.[1]

He died 6 July 1778, near 83 years old.[1]


He married twice:

7 July 1720 Hepzibah, daugther of Nathaniel Dickinson of Hartford. She died 29 Dec 1761 age 65.[1]
26 Oct 1763 Lydia (Todd), widow of Rev. Benjamin Doolittle. She married third in 1778 Japhet Chapin. The couple at age 80 and 82, visited her children in Northfield, forty miles away, by horseback.[1]
