During the Revolutionary War, Col. Thomas Belding commanded the 6th Regiment of Connecticut Militia [4] from Nov 1776 to Jan 1780 [5], which was composed of companies from Wethersfield and Glastonbury. From March to June, 1777, his regiment belonged to BGen. Erastus Wolcott’s 1st Brigade of Connecticut Militia and was encamped at Peekskill, New York [6]. Col. Thomas Belden died in 1782 [7] and is buried in Village Cemetery at Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut [8].
Famed Descendant. Capt. Ezekiel Belden is the 2nd great-grandfather of 1Lt. Frederick Clarence Buck (1843-1905), who was awarded the Medal of Honor during the American Civil War, for his bravery while serving at the rank of Corporal in the Union Army during the 29 Sep 1864 Battle of Chapin's Farm, Virginia, during the Siege of Petersburg. His citation reads "Although wounded, refused to leave the field until the fight closed." He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 1 Mar 1865, awarded his Medal on 6 Apr 1865, and was honorably mustered out on 16 Jun 1865.
