Biography

I have been a lifelong intellectual, spiritual and cultural explorer; cosmopolitan in affinity, sensitive to both the presence of Antiquity and the shadow of Tomorrow cast upon the events of our generation. History of science, classical music, comparative religion, philosophy, genetic genealogy, and antiquities are among favorite interests.

My partner of twenty-plus years and I share life in sunny Yuma, Arizona. We enjoy a near-vegetarian diet that accommodates a bit of seafood and plenty of wulong and green teas.

City of Yuma Engineering Department was my last employer (secretary/clerical) prior to retirement in 2009, but the longest span of Employment was with Baltimore County, Maryland, in areas of operations, tech support, and administration of IBM and HP computer systems.

Education: B.A. in Political Science, through study (a bit interrupted and piecemeal) at Johns Hopkins, Ohio State, and Towson.

Religion: Bahá'í, prodigal return after a lapse of about thirty-five years.

Myers-Briggs type: INFP; mt-DNA: H4a1a3; GEDmatch.com kit# M071333

Sacred icons: Lord Russell's Teapot (the central stars of Sagittarius); the Three Graces; the Nine Muses; Gaia Herself.

Heroes: Heraclitus, Epicurus, Hypatia, Kant, Goethe, Bahá’u’lláh, Albert Einstein, Bertrand Russell, Joseph Campbell, Alan Turing, James Lovelock, E.O. Wilson, Karen Armstrong, and a host of others.

Favorite Quotations: "Men and women range themselves into three classes or orders of intelligence; you can tell the lowest class by their habit of always talking about persons, the next by the fact that their habit is always to converse about things; the highest by their preference for the discussion of ideas" – Attr.: Henry Thomas Buckle, c. 1858

"…Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” – John Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn (1819)

“ e^i(pi) +1 = 0 ” – Leonhard Euler (1748)

"Toute nation a le gouvernement qu'elle mérite." "Every nation gets the government it deserves." – Joseph de Maistre, Letter 76, on the topic of Russia's new constitutional laws (27 August 1811)

Hello Julia! My name is Alvin Chaney and I just wanted to introduce myself.

After years of thinking and talking about taking a DNA test, I finally did it. I did the 23andMe kit and uploaded my info to GEDmatch. Now, I'm trying to make sense of it all. I just tried my 1st GEDmatch comparison with yours and found that we are 4th cousins through George Singleton Little.

Amazing to find family I never knew I had!

Hi Julia,

I'd like to invite you to join in our "Weekend Chat", a popular G2G post where many of the members visit and share in a variety of topics.

New people say "Hello" and introduce themselves, Leaders and Mentors give tips and answer questions, and regulars share updates on their latest projects and victories... anything they wish to chat about. I most enjoy stories of famous or nefarious ancestors.

We'd love to hear from you, stop in when you're able!

Welcome to the DNA Project: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:DNA

To make DNA connections with your cousins, WikiTree needs to see your FamilyTree. You should use the pale yellow Privacy setting on any profiles in your DNA family line so that WikiTree can see the Family Tree tab. (Please set all living children to the Unlisted privacy level.)

As you add your family lines and connect to the big WikiTree, you may find you are related to people you never expected. Use the Relationship calculator to see if you are related to me, Cooper-1 with http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Relationship

Please let me know if you need any assistance.

I was inspired by the PBS series hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr to finally order a testing kit from 23andMe and just to see what might be discovered and shared with my scattered relatives.
