An early record of Elizabeth is in the will of her father, written in June of 1848.[1]
The following has been extracted and transcribed from the will: " bequeath unto my beloved wife Polly Belt .... to the heirs of Kitturah Church my deceased daughter and .....the heirs of Angeline Douglass my deceased daughter also to Asbury Belt my youngest ....... mine heirs now living Milcah Crow, Elizabeth Trussell, Aquila Belt Jr, Richard Belt, Asbury Belt & Henrietta Belt..... 20th day of June AD 1848 Aquila Belt Senr"
Martial (Marshall) Trussell and Elizabeth were enumerated in the 1850 Census of Indiana.
[2]
In what looks like a mistake by the census taker, Martial is listed in the preceeding household, in the line immediately above Elizabeth. There are five children listed under Elizabeth: Phineas 19, Aquilla 16, Polly 13, Elizabeth 9, James 5, and Emily, 2.
The 1856 Iowa State Census contains Martial Trussell, Elizabeth Trussell and five children.[3]
The 1870 census of Iowa has Elizabeth in one of her son's households. Present are Aquilla, whos wife is not listed, along with three of Aquilla's presumed children (ages 6-9), a domestic servant and a farm worker.
[4]
Of interest is that Francis A Belt and Moses Belt are on the same page, while Phineas Trussel is on the preceeding one.
The final census listing found for Elizabeth is in Iowa in the 1880 household of her son James (widowed) and his five children.[5]
