Jemima Benedict was born in Ridgefield Township, Fairfield County, Connecticut, on 25 July 1749 to James Benedict, the first pastor in Warwick, Orange County, New York[1][2], and his first wife Mary Blackman[3]. She was christened 17 December 1793 in the Church of Christ, Westchester, Salem, New York.[2]
Jemima married John Newberry 1 June 1770 in Warwick, Orange County, New York.[2] They had thirteen children.
In his will written 5 September 1809 in Warwick, her husband John Newberry writes:[1][4]
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife the use and ocupency of the room of her choice in my now dwelling during her natural life, and Ocupency and Control of the whole house for three years after my decease - together with all the furniture she may need for her use during her widdowhood
Jemima died 1 June 1843 in Bellvale, Orange, New York.[2]
