Article: The Crawford County Advance - May 20, 1897 New Postmaster W.W. Bennett received word the other day from the post office department, that he had been appointed postmaster at Soldiers Grove. Mr. Bennett will probably take charge of the office as soon as his bond is approved and his commission arrives. Mr. Smith the retiring postmaster, has made a good officer and no one had any fault to find with him as an officer, but to the "victors belongs the spoils" and this time it goes to a republican, and his friends are extending congratulations.
Article: The Kickapoo Valley Journal - March 29, 1906 W.W. Bennett, a former Soldiers Grove resident, now of Muskogee, Indian Territory, has been promoted from Squaw Warden to Judge. It being one of the most unique courts in the world, having been created to look after the Indian who complain of being imposed upon by white men, and is generally known as the "intruders" court.
