Biography

Richard Bennett was born in Montgomery County, Maryland, 8 March 1829 [1].

Richard married first, 20 April 1850 in Montgomery County, Maryland, Savilla (Miller) Bennett (1827-1877). Several children are listed in their online memorial sites:

  • William H. Bennett, 1851–1906
  • Sarah Frances Bennett, 1853–1928
  • George Wilbur Bennett, 1855–1937
  • Horace Wilson Bennett, 1868–1936

This family was charted consistently in census records of Montgomery County, Maryland [2],[3],[4],[5].

Richard's first wife died in 1877, hence he married second, 4 March 1881, Martha (Trail; 1860-). They were enumerated in the 1900 census [6]. In this record the following two additional children are found:

  • Reginald H Bennett, 1882–1973
  • Wootie Carman Bennett, 1884–1965

Richard passed away in Germantown, Maryland, 14 May 1902. His grave is in Neelsville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Germantown, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA.

NOTE per FamilySearch profile: According to the Bennett family history, "Richard had been sick for awhile and there was not a lot of money for a grave stone. They were offered one that someone else had turned down and it already had a date on it. This is why the date on the stone is wrong." Personal communication from Marjorie Cornelia Horn Satterlee.
