My father told me that as a kid, every autumn, a big box of fruits and nuts would arrive in Wind Gap for the family sent by Aunt Elsie from Paradise CA. My grandmother never knew her older half-sister that well but kept in contact with her over the years until my Uncle George(Joel Bennett) showed up in Paradise and made a donkey out of himself and embarrassed Elsie. Get the book and read it. I had a chance to meet the authoress, Lois McDonald before she died and laid new info on her which she could have used for the book. Elsie was a die-hard Republican, corresponded with Richard Nixon when he was state governor....she did have a bad habit as voter registrar of Butte county...you turned in your form and if you wrote in Democrat, she'd loss your application once you left the office!.
