Elijah was born in 1800. He was the twin brother of Elisha Bennett and the spouse of Sarah Wells. He passed away in 1879.

In the 1850 census, in Tippah, Mississippi, Elijah (age 49), is married to Sarah (48), and children Wiley (17), Miles (15), Sarah (11), Elijah A (7), Martha e (1), and returning son Hiram (19) and his wife Elizabeth (20). [2]
The 1860 Census, in Tippah, Mississippi, has Elijah (59), wife Sarah (58), children Elijah M (17) and Martha (11), along with Nancy P. Warren (9). [3]
1870 Census has E Bennet (70) and Sarah (68). in Tippah. Their son, WC, is listed on the same census page. [4]
