Conflated - It appears that this profile conflates information about a Richard Bennett of Virginia and a Richard Bennett of North Carolina, as does a FamilySearch Tree for Richard Bennett, showing him as born in Virginia in 1732/3, son of William Bennett and Mary Humphreys of Virginia, husband of Ann Fullilove (also of Virginia), but dying in North Carolina in 1786 (and Ann dying in NC in 1790).[1]
Virginia: Richard Bennett of Halifax County/Pittsylvania County, Virginia died there in 1811, per the online tree, "Bennetts of Pittsylvania County, Virginia". In 1764, "William Bennett, Peter Bennett, and Richard Bennett appeared on a list of voters for Halifax County, Virginia taken 28 Nov 1764 for the poll of Mr. Edward Booker."[2] In a census taken of Pittsylvania County in January 1785, he is listed in the "District of William Witcher" (the label for the document in the tree has 1782) - seven people, one dwelling, three "cabbins".[3] Louvisha Cockram is the beneficiary of his will, dated 14 February 1811 (Charles W. Bobbitt after her death) and names his friends Peyton Graves and Charles Bobbitt as executors. A memorandum dated 28 September 1811 notes that Charles Bobbitt is the principal legatee in the will and details the rights of Louvisha Cockram to live in his home and be maintained by the estate. This was signed by Richard Bennett Senior & Charles Bobbitt (both with their mark). On 21 October 1811, the will & memorandum of Richard Bennett, dec'd, were presented to the Pittsylvania County Court.[4]
North Carolina: Will of Richard Bennett dated 5 March 1785; probated in the February Court 1786, Granville County, North Carolina[5][6]

In 1762, Richard Bennett of Granville County, North Carolina gives to his son William, "after my decease and the decease of my wife Ann Bennett", 100 acres that is "part of the tract of land whereon I the said Richard Bennett now liveth it lying and being in the fork of the Buffalo Branch on the North side of Great Fishing Creek in the County and the Colony aforesaid".[7]
If I understand the wording of the 1762 deed,[7] Richard's son is possessed of the land at the time, which probably puts William's birth about 1740 - potentially a different generation than the Richard of Granville County who wrote his will in 1785. ~ Noland-165, 21 March 2024
Daughter Mourning Worsham: Mourning is not listed in the will of either the Virginia or North Carolina Richard Bennett (1811 VA will, 1785 NC will).[4][5] She is also not listed as a daughter in the FamilySearch Tree.[1] The online tree of the "Bennetts of Pittsylvania County, Virginia" does not list a wife or children for him.[2]
The FamilySearch PID for Mourning Dove Bennett (about 1760–1843)[8] has her parents as Richard Bennett (3 March 1733–1786) and Anne Fullilove (1740–February 1786) but no sources support the relationship. The PIDs for her parents has her father born in Virginia/died in Granville County, North Carolina[9] and Anne born/died in Granville County.[10] The Collaborate note for Anne Fullilove's PID states that "Anne Fullilove most likely did not exist. She is not named in Susanna Tatom Fullilove's expansive will, a will that named brothers, sister, cousins, son-in-laws, grandchildren, everyone except for Anne and her supposed family." It also notes that there is nothing to connect her as the "Anne Bennett" named as Richard Bennett's wife in his 1783 will.[11]
