On December 23, 1846 or 1848 in Whitley County, Kentucky, Malinda married Nathan Lawson. Nathan was born on January 13, 1827. His parents are James Lawson (1798 – 07/19/1869) and Elizabeth Croley (09/17/1804 – 08/29/1885). Nathan was a farmer in Whitley County, Kentucky when he joined the Union Army during the U.S. Civil War. From Sept 2, 1861 to November 17, 1864 he served as a Private in Company A,E 8th regiment, Kentucky Infantry. Following the war, he returned to farming and raised a large family with Malinda. Nathan and Malinda (Bennett) Lawson had twelve children:

Calvin C. Lawson was born on December 10, 1856 in Knox Co, KY. He married Mary J Marsee (b.~1860) on January 3, 1879 in Knox Co, KY. Calvin died before 1890.

George Washington Lawson was born on August 20, 1876 in Knox Co, KY. He married Cordie Rose (b. 05/16/1880) on November 19, 1898 in Campbell Co, TN. George died on January 28, 1955 in Whitley Co, KY. Also living with them is their married daughter, Elizabeth (29 yrs), her husband, Felix Lundy and Elizabeth and Felix’s children: Malinda (8 yrs), Jonas (6 yrs), Paragena (3 yrs) and Elijah (1 month). 1900 U.S. Census[7] – Nathan and Malinda Lawson living in Boston, Kentucky (Whitley County) with 23 yr old son, George and George’s wife Cordie and 17 yr old grandson, James Henry is also listed as living in the household. It is unknown who the parents of James Henry are? Nathan is a farmer.
1910 U.S. Census[8] – Nathan and Malinda Lawson living in Boston, Kentucky (Whitley County). Nathan is a farmer. He owns his farm free and clear.
October 28, 1918[9] – Malinda Bennett Lawson, died in Whitley County, Kentucky. Malinda is buried in Nathan Lawson Cemetery in Lot, Whitley County, Kentucky.
1920 U.S. Census[10] – 91-year-old Nathan Lawson is widowed and living in Boston, Kentucky (Whitley County) with his son, William and William’s wife Lizzie and their 15 yr old daughter, Corda. Also living in the home is William’s married daughter, Ada and her husband, Wymer Prewitt and their infant daughter Elsie. Nathan is retired, William is a farmer and Wymer is a coal miner. They are living next door to Nathan’s late daughter, Samantha’s family: 54 yr old Simon Siler and sons, James (27 yrs), Ernest (21 yrs) and John (14 yrs) and daughter Juda (12 yrs). Juda was known as Judy as an adult.
