James Bennett is the son of Richard Bennett, Jr., eldest son of Richard, Sr. and his wife Ann. James is remembered by his father when he made his Will in 1720, and was given 200 acres from John Cofer's place. [1]
On March 15, 1741, James patented 190 acres in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. The land was located on the south side of Nottoway River, bounded by Ridley's Branch. (Bk 20, p. 199) On July 10, 1745, he patented 382 acres in Brunswick on both sides of Gravelly Run, adjoining Edward Jackson (Bk. 23, p. 946) In 1748, James received a grant of 404 acres in Brunswick County, Virginia, on both sides of Rocky Run.
James made his Will on November 11, 1751 and the same was probated March 1, 1752 as follows:
"To my son Benjamin Bennett all land lying between Honey Bottom and the upper line.
To my children James Bennet, Mary Proctor, Frances Simms, Priscilla Dugger and Joseph Bennett, one shilling each.
To my son Reuben Bennett all the lower part from said Honey Bottom and plantation;
to my dau. Brambley Bennett, bible and furniture, etc.
to wife Mary rest of estate, seh and son Reuben to be executors. Teste, John Dugger, John Ducke and Edward Parrish."
James married Mary Rogers, daughter of William Rogers and Elizabeth Cartwright. [2]

Research Notes
Benjamin Bell left a will that was probated on 31 Oct 1722, Isle of Wight naming his son Benjamin as heir. The following abstract is from his profile (accessed 20 March 2022):
Abstract: Sarah Lancaster. Leg.-granddaughter Ann Craft; granddaughter Sarah Meacor; granddaughter Ann Kea; to Mary Mangum, the daughter of John Mangum; to Sarah Mangum the daughter of John Mangum; to Bridgett Bennett, the daughter of James Bennett; to Sarah B...[18]
I think that the James Bennett named is this James, but this profile does not mention a daughter named Bridgett. I think the James in Benjamin's will is this one because his [Benjamin's] profile, Bell-3351 (1670-1722), is attached as half-brother to John Bell (1668-1713), husband of Ann Bennett (1676-abt.1736) - married 30 Aug 1694, Isle of Wight. WikiTree has Ann and this James as siblings, with another sibling who married a Mangum.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
Richard Draper-310 you are correct. Bennett-1895 is the son of Richard Bennett, Sr. and this James Bennett is the son of Richard Bennett, Jr.

Bennett-8693 and Bennett-1899 appear to represent the same person because: same father, dates are similar and without sources, no idea which is correct
Bennett-1895 and Bennett-5065 are not ready to be merged because: The dates don't match up. I think these must be two different people with the same name - and perhaps a wrong death date for one of them.
