"William (I) & Magdalena’s son, William Jr. and his wife Jane, (maiden name uncertain), remain in the Plumbtree Branch area of Bedford County (becomes Campbell County in 1783), near modern-day Leesville, Campbell County, Virginia, until ca 1784-85 when he moves his family into Wilkes County, Georgia. It has been proposed that William Jr. & Jane Vardaman had five children including one documented son; William and two documented daughters; Hannah and Rhoda. A third daughter, Mary, although not proven, is documented in the genealogy of the Wilkerson/Hall families. Another suggested daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Reuben Bennett, is unsupported by any documentation whatsoever and remains pure speculation at this time."[1] Their son William married Rachel Walker.[2]
William Vardeman, Jr., a first Lieutenant in the Bedford County militia during the American Revolution, had also been in the Battle of Point Pleasant (1774) during the French and Indian War.[3]
William died in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1796. Francis Billingslea, who moved to Wilkes County before 1797, married his widow Jane Vardeman. "One can find their union posted in the deed records of Wilkes Co. Ga wherein they agreed that neither's possessions would be shared by the other, but go to their heirs [children by prior marriages]. Francis died shortly after this marriage."[4]
Rhoda Vardeman, daughter of William and Jane, married Lewis McLain/McLean.[4]
