Biography

Dorcas Bennett was born at Horton Township, Kings, Nova Scotia 16 Feb 1768. She was the daughter of Caleb Bennett and Anna Horton.[1][2] In 1788 Dorcas married Amos Babcock at the Congressional Church, Chipmans Corner, Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Amos Babcock was born in 1764 at Cornwallis, Annapolis, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Jonathan Babcock and Lydia Larkin. After the birth in 1790 of their first child, Amos and Dorcas moved to Hopewell, New Brunswick.

Amos Babcock died 28 Jun 1805 in Dorchester, Westmorland, New Brunswick. Amos was hanged at Dorchester Penitentiary for the murder of his sister by stabbing. He went insane after listening to the sermon of a fanatic preacher. Dorcas (Bennett) Babcock is thought to have died about 1842 at Albert County, New Brunswick.
