Biography

Jane was born about 1744. Jane Bennett, she married Dilling. ... She passed away about 1795. She married John Henry Dilling and their children included at least Nicholas, Rachel (married to Elisha Rhodes), and Polly (married to Jarvis Green Atkins of Campbell, TN).[1][2]

    Lincoln County, North Carolina, USA;
    October Sessions 1826
    North Carolina, Lincoln County. Personally appeared before me Andrew Hoyl one of the Justices for and in the county. Nicholas Dillen and Rachel Dillen now Rachel Rhoades and made oath in due form of law shall severally sign their right and title of a certain Negro woman named Hannah and her increase to Polly Dillen, their sister, now Polly Atkins by a Deed of Gift that is all her increase except the four oldest. In and about the time that the said Rachel became the age of 21 years or a few months after which was done at the request of their uncle William Bennet and I further say on oath aforesaid that the said Deed of Gift was given to their mother Jane Dellen for safekeeping, and that they have reasons to believe and do believe that the said deed of gift has been destroyed, mislaid or lost so that it cannot now be procured and that they both hereby acknowledge the validity of the said Deed of Gift. Sworn to and subscribed before me the 21st day of October 1826.

    At the same time and place Jane Dillen made oath that the above mentioned Negro Hannah was willed to her by her father during his life _______ to the said Nicholas Dillen and Rachel Rhodes with her increase and that about three months after the youngest to wit Rachel was 21 years of age. They both signed over their Right and Title of her said Hannah and her increase Except the four oldest to Polly Atkins as aforesaid by a deed of gift and that the said instrument was given into her hands for safekeeping and to put it on record which she neglected and that the said deed of gift now lost or mislaid so that it cannot be found. Sworn to a subscribed before me.
