Biography

Marie Benoit was born on 5 November 1761 in the Province of Massachusetts Bay, where her parentsJoseph Benoit and Anne Thibodeau had been deported in 1755.

After the end of the Seven Years' War in 1763, the Acadians detained in the Anglo-American colonies were finally free to leave. On 1 March 1765, James Murray, Governor of the Province of Quebec, issued a proclamation offering free land to new immigrants. Between 1765 and 1775, 1306 Acadians deported to New England immigrated to Quebec. [1]

The family boarded the Sloop Polly that left Boston on 21 July 1766 and arrived at the port of Québec on 31 August 1766. [1]

Marie was baptized on 8 September 1766 at Notre-Dame-de-Québec. [2] It was noted in the baptism record that she and her parents and recently arrived from Boston.

Joseph Raimond,son of Jacques Raimond and Marie Pelerin, and Marie Benoit, daughter of Joseph Benoit and Anne Tibaudault, were married 20 Nov 1780 in the parish of Sainte-Anne-d'Yamachiche, Yamachiche, Province de Québec. [3]

Marie died on 2 September 1793 in St-Michel, Yamaska, Bas-Canada. Her burial took place the next day in Yamaska. [4]
