Biography

Don was born in 1872 in Paradise, Muhlenberg, Kentucky. He was the son of James Madison Benton and Mary King Mabrey.

In 1897 he married Bertha Lillian Mattingly. They had 7 children:

  • Mary E Benton 1898–1923 m. 1922 Ralph Lebbeus Custer
  • Arthur Smith Benton 1900–1956 m. 1926 Lila Greet Stanley, son Arthur
  • Adele Berry Benton 1903–1911 died in infancy
  • Grace H. Benton 1904–1964 m. James Dellum Caswell
  • Don Carlos Benton Jr. 1906–1982 m. 1929 Wilma Mae Bailey
  • Bertha M. Benton 1909–2004 m. 1934 Virgil Dacer Spears, son Thomas
  • Mildred Louise Benton 1913–1983 m. 1935 Frederick Louis William Hauck
