Biography

Frederick William Bergin, son of George Bergin and Emma Cook, was born on December 26, 1869 at Wandsworth, London. He was twin to George.[1]

On September 22, 1890 Fred enlisted in 2nd Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), at Perth, Scotland.[2] He went on to serve for twelve years. Three of those years was spent in South Africa fighting in the second Boer War alongside his brother Sydney, who was in the same regiment.

Fred was awarded the Kings South Africa Medal with two clasps, for his service in South Africa fighting in the second Boer War.[3]


Frederick died in September 1921.
