Biography

'from Hugh Campbell Berry family history:
“[1] WILLIAM (BERRY) first married BETSEY DUFF, daughter of Samuel Duff.  Their children were John, Polly, Jane, Samuel, William Campbell, Sally and Betsy.  I gave the names as they called them.  JOHN (BERRY) married NANCY HOPE mostly lived in Scott Co,., Virginia, and raised their family.  Polly married GERRARD COX, moved to Southern Kentucky;  Jane accompanied them and married one DAVENPORT also in Kentucky;  Samuel married SALLEY HICKEY and with their family moved to Wright Co., Mo. where he died shortly, leaving sons, Campbell, Hamilton, Robinson, Carson and some others.  WILLIAM CAMPBELL (BERRY) died at about 17--.  Betsey married MICKEY HAMMON, I believe.  Uncle William’s second wife was JANE MAXWELL, daughter of NATHANIEL MAXWELL.  They had several children also, among whom were Nathaniel, William and Hugh, I cannot distinctly recollect the rest.  Uncle (William Berry) lived and died old on Holston River in Washington Co, Va., near the Tennessee line.  The foregoing is all I deem necessary to say about Uncle William (Berry) and his descendants.”
