William Berry married an orphan girl named Mary. She had taken the name Dawsey from the family who raised her. She was a large woman, about 150 pounds. By 1850 they had moved to Tennessee. William was a large, strong man, weighing about 200 pounds. He was a carpenter, a fine mechanic and a millwright who built mills in Tennessee. He visited Texas in 1851 and visited his daughter Matilda in Clarksville and his son in Travis County. In 1856, about 80 years old, he rode alone back to Tennessee. He died about four years later.
