Biography

Thornton Berry, a son of William and Cynthia Triplett Berry, was born March 9, 1811 and died December 11 1883 in Augusta County, VA. He is buried at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Augusta County, Fort Defiance, VA. [1][2]

He married (1) Rachel Bell in VA born April 28 1812 and died ? 25 1852 from her tombstone reading. She is buried at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Augusta County, Fort Defiance, VA. [3] He married (2) Nancy Leslie, his second wife, in VA. She was born March 30 1814 and died April 17 1898. She is buried at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Augusta County, Fort Defiance, VA. [4]

Thornton and Rachel Bell Berry were the parents of [5] James W d. 1849, Mary Elizabeth m James Montgomery Sellers, William Crawford m Frances Louisa Phillips Kennerly Hanger, Rachel d. 1849, Cornelia A d.1849. In 1880 Elizabeth Berry Sellers, their only living child, is living with her father and step-mother, along with her three sons, William, John and Frank. [6]

William Crawford Berry fought in Co. E Virginia 1st Calvary Regiment in 1861 and killed at Catlett's Station, VA. He attained rank of 2nd Corporal and was killed when Stuart raided General Pope's headquarters at Catlett's Station. [7]

Thornton and Nancy Leslie Berry were the parents of Bettie Stuart Berry [8]
