Plympton was born about 1867. Plympton Berry grew up in Youngstown, Ohio. Though he worked in the family bricklaying business, music became his profession. He travelled with a band in England, where he met his spouse Mary Elizabeth (Park) Hall, a widow (with three children) and seamstress in the Manchester Theatre scene. They married and had one son.
